Short Break
Created by Andrew Ardington, Three Tree Hill Lodge has been built to reflect the Colonial style of the 19th century. The Lodge is located on a bluff looking out towards the Spioenkop Hill, the site of one of the most closely fought battles of the Anglo-Boer War. The staff make sure that their guests are made to feel very welcome and there is a homely atmosphere that has encouraged many to return. The main house has a wide terrace and includes the dining room, where everyone eats together, and the lounge which has some fascinating memorabilia. Down a meandering path is the secluded sun deck and outdoor swimming pool. There are seven cottages and each has a small terrace looking out towards the game reserve and Spioenkop. It is a three mile escorted walk from the hotel through the Game Reserve, home to rhino, giraffe, zebra and many species of antelope before rising to the summit of Spioenkop and the battle site. Three Tree Hill Lodge is a great place to unwind and also a good base to explore the region with both Ladysmith and the stunning Drakensberg Mountains within an hours’ drive.
