A handsome Palladian manor house built in 1728 by Sir Edward Lovett Pearce, architect of the Parliament House in Dublin, this was once the residence of Ireland’s archbishops. Opened in 2022 after a meticulous restoration, its original features include staircases with intricately carved candy cane handrails. The elegant lounge, restaurant and bar have historic fireplaces, original artworks and antique furniture, whilst the 42 spacious rooms are more understated but equally luxurious and are located in the Main House, the new Garden Wing or the Gate Lodge – some enjoy views of the Rock of Cashel while others have private patios which lead directly into the gardens. The Bishop’s Buttery has a table d’hôte menu available for lunch Thursday to Sunday and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, whilst afternoon tea can be taken in the Queen Anne Room, and Mikey Ryan’s Bar & Kitchen offers informal meals next door. A contemporary spa overlooks the gardens with a 17 metre indoor/outdoor swimming pool.
