Short Break
This unique hotel is housed in a series of handsome 19th century buildings and commands excellent views across the Sea of Galilee – it is the place to stay in Tiberias. When Church of Scotland pioneer Dr David Watt Torrance founded his hospital in 1894 to ‘treat all people without prejudice’, he could not have predicted that a century later the Church of Scotland would restore the magnificent stone buildings to create a unique historic hotel. There are 69 rooms (a limited number have sea views, available on request) including 18 housed in the original ‘Doctor’s House’ and other adjacent buildings. Most rooms are in the purpose-built new building which has been designed in a contemporary style but with traditional furniture. On the other side of the road accessed by a private footbridge, the hotel has delightful gardens which provide an elegant setting for the large summer swimming pool, snack bar and spa. A lavish buffet is served at breakfast and dinner, and there are two bars – one serving regional wines on the terrace, and the Ceilidh Bar offering an impressive menu of Scotch whisky. The Church of Scotland still owns this wonderful oasis and weekly services are held in the original church adjacent to the gardens.
