Accommodation
Short Break
This famous hotel sits in a stunning valley at the foot of the Bavarian Alps,
close to the Austrian border. The train from Munich to Klais takes 1.5 hours (from Innsbruck it is 1 hour), from where the hotel will arrange a complimentary 10-minute transfer. This peaceful location makes Schloss Elmau a wonderful retreat, and to ensure you have a relaxing stay there are six spa areas, three reserved for adults and three for families including an oriental hammam, Japanese Onsen, steam baths, saunas, yoga sessions, a comprehensive range of treatments and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Varied dining options include European, Alpine, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Pan-Mediterranean and a two Michelin-starred French-Japanese restaurant. The accommodation is split between two buildings, The Retreat was built in 2015 and is home to 47 suites all decorated in a soothing, understated style which allows the views to take centre stage. The Hideaway houses 115 rooms and suites which enjoy similarly wonderful views of the mountains.
Throughout the year the resort plays host to an array of musicians, artists and authors ranging from string quartets to Lieder recitals, film screenings to jazz performances; all are included for hotels guests. Exploring the region is made easy with the complimentary use of one of the hotels electric BMW cars; the picturesque town of Mittenwald, famous for its violin ateliers, is only 20 minutes’ drive, Schloss Linderfhof, the smallest but perhaps most sumptuous of King Ludwig II’s palaces, is 1 hour away – and the famous Neuschwanstein Castle is 1.5 hours’ drive.
