Located 20 minutes’ drive from Cuitadella in the west of the island and set within a 200-hectare private estate with landscaped gardens, olive groves, fig and citrus trees and an organic vegetable garden lies the hotel Son Vell. Opened in 2023 after a meticulous restoration the hotel is centred around a handsome 18th century sandstone manor house and a series of historic estate buildings where the majority of the 34 rooms and suites are located. Interiors have been carefully designed to create a peaceful, elegant atmosphere with soft tones and antique furniture complementing the rural aesthetic. All rooms are a generous size, and facilities include two swimming pools, a pétanque court, massage rooms, a wine tasting cellar and an outdoor cinema.The hotel can also arrange numerous activities including cookery workshops, nature walks, yoga, star-gazing and guided biking tours. On the edge of the estate you will find the Camí de Cavalls, the bridlepath that wraps its way around the island, and the unspoilt cove of Cala de Son Vell, which is a 10 minute cycle ride from the hotel and offers private sea swimming. There are two restaurants, Vermell which uses the best locally-sourced produce to create dishes inspired by traditional Menorcan recipes, and Sa Clarissa which is ideal for a relaxed al fresco lunch in the sun dappled courtyard.
