One of the most anticipated hotel openings of 2019 was the reappearance of the Bairro Alto. The original hotel was a careful restoration of a majestic yellow ochre building on one of the city’s prettiest squares in the eponymous quarter, now one of the most sought after addresses in the city. The old fire station and an intermediate building were acquired by the owners and the hotel now offers 135 large rooms and 18 suites, all redesigned to a high standard, keeping the colour palette of amber, ochre and red. The decoration throughout is stylish and contemporary which blends beautifully with the historic features of the building. There is an expanded Portuguese-inspired restaurant and bar open to the public and meals and cocktails are served on the rooftop bar, exclusive to hotel guests with spectacular views of the city’s rooftops leading down to the River Tagus. There is a fitness centre and sauna.
