Built in 2002 by Zeina Aboukheir, Al Moudira is the only hotel on the West Bank of the Nile, close to the ancient sites at the Valley of the Queens. This stylish palace combines Arabian architecture and Egyptian and Oriental furnishings in the most tranquil of surroundings. The 54 individually decorated rooms are located in the galleries of a series of courtyards and are all adorned with hand-painted frescoes, antique furnishings collected from around the Middle East and richly coloured fabrics. All have large hammam-style bathrooms. The wonderful, lush garden is filled with fruit trees, palms and tropical flowers and is an idyllic setting in which to relax and unwind. Breakfast is served on the bougainvillea-filled terrace, whilst lunch is served in the ‘Pavilion’ restaurant in the garden, close to the large outdoor swimming pool. The glamorous Eastern Bar harks back to a bygone era and the wellness area includes Turkish baths, sauna and a range of treatments. Luxor can easily be reached by ferry or in 20 minutes by taxi.
