JMW Turner was one of the greatest artists that Britain has ever produced. His landscapes have defined the Romantic vision of Britain, and his expressive and dramatic style has influenced modern art, including impressionism and abstraction. His painting 'The Fighting Temeraire' was voted Britain’s favourite painting and appears on the twenty pound note. 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of Turner’s birth in Covent Garden, on 23 April, which happens also to be both St George’s Day and Shakespeare’s birthday.
