Founded by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears in 1948, the Aldeburgh Festival passes a landmark anniversary this summer. Known for its commitment to contemporary music and composers, the Festival’s summer programme always combines favourite pieces with brand new works. The Scottish composer, Judith Weir, is at the centre of the 2024 Festival and the programme for the concert on 11 June includes two works commissioned by Britten Pears Arts. Most concerts are given in The Maltings concert hall, a spectacularly-located venue overlooking the reed beds of this stretch of the Suffolk coast, but our itinerary also includes concerts at Orford Church and Blythburgh Church enabling us to enjoy the lovely Suffolk countryside as we travel to performances. We are based in the centre of Aldeburgh right by the sea evoking memories of Britten’s masterpiece, Peter Grimes.
