This holiday combines a cruise on the Nile itself with a stay at two of Egypt’s most famous hotels, the Victorian Old Winter Palace in Luxor and the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan. Highlights include the Valley of the Kings and Queens, the temples at Kom Ombo and Edfu, and Aswan’s Philae Temple. Be sure to ask about an optional excursion to visit the colossal statues of Rameses II rescued from Lake Nasser to sit at Abu Simbel.

The Old Cataract Hotel and the surrounding area inspired Agatha Christie’s novel, ‘Death on the Nile.’ It opened in 1899 and is set in gardens at the end of the corniche overlooking the Nile and the legendary Elephantine Island.
