The Lion Gate at Mycenae
Join archaeologist Christofilis Maggidis for a unique insight into the ongoing dig at Mycenae, one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in Greece. Staying in the ancient coastal town of Nafplio, we will visit a number of key sites in the Peleponnese, from Mycenae and Epidaurus to Corinth, Sparta and Nemea, where Hercules defeated the legendary lion. The highlight however, is Mycenae, where you will learn more about the Mycenaean civilisation, which reached its peak around the 13th century BC. Professor Maggidis will then introduce you to the science of archaeology in a one-acre dig simulator, using specialist technology such as aerial photography, ground observation and geophysical surveying, as well as excavation and restoration.
