Since the opening of the magnificent Picasso Museum in 2003, Málaga has fast become the cultural heart of Andalucia. The most recent openings include offshoots of Paris’s Pompidou Centre and St. Petersburg’s Russian Museum, taking the total number of museums to over thirty. Add to these the historic city centre with its maze of narrow streets, the cathedral and the ancient fortress of Gibralfaro and you have all the ingredients for a memorable short break in an intriguing city.
