The history of Naples dates back to the 9th century BC, when the Greeks founded ‘Neapolis’. Today, traditional pizzerias and superb restaurants can be found, as can an acclaimed opera house, beautiful monuments and some wonderful museums. A visit to the Capodimonte with its extensive collection of paintings and sculptures and a trip to the National Archaeological Museum are highly recommended. Naples is great for a short break or a place to stay for a few days at the beginning of a longer, tailor-made itinerary.
