Art Biennale

At the Giardini, from 20 April until 24 November 2024

Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, artistic director of one of Brazil’s most important museums, the 60th Art Biennale in Venice is titled Stranieri OvunqueForeigners Everywhere, and includes entries from 88 different countries. Boldly titled, and intentionally phrased to provoke multi-interpretations, Pedrosa’s Biennale invites viewers to consider their own heritage and history, as well as their own sense of being a ‘foreigner’.

Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa is the artistic director of the São Paulo Museum of Art, and is the first Latin-American to curate the Biennale. A highly regarded curator, with recent exhibitions including Histories of Dance (2020) and Brazilian Histories (2022), in 2023 he received the Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence in New York.

The 60th Art Biennale sees particular themes including the use of textiles, traditional crafts and works by indigenous artists, including the Maataho collective from New Zealand and the Mahku collective from Brazil, who will paint a monumental mural on the façade of the Central Pavillion. With over 300 participating artists from over 88 countries, the Art Biennale brings together the world’s top contemporary artists to shed light on key issues in the modern world.

The exhibition takes place across two main venues: the Central Pavilion (Giardini) and the Arsenale. However, there are also further national pavilions and collateral events running outside of the Central Pavilion and Arsenale, dotted around Venice.

Opening Hours

The exhibition runs from 20 April to 24 November, 2024.

Summer opening hours run from 20 April to 30 September:

Giardini: 11 am – 7 pm (last admission 6:45 pm)
Arsenale: from Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday 11 am – 7 pm (last admission 6:45 pm), Fridays and Saturdays 11 am – 8 pm (last admission 7:45 pm)

Autumn opening hours run from 1 October to 24 November:
