Kirker had the pleasure of sponsoring the Oldie Literary Lunch at the National Liberal Club in October. Established by Gladstone in 1882, the venue is a grand setting for a delicious lunch, and we enjoyed after lunch talks from three very different but equally fascinating writers: Henry Blofeld, Pam Ayres and Bill Wyman.
Henry Blofeld, sports journalist and cricket commentator known as ‘the greatest test match commentator of all time’ reminisced about the golden days of cricket with hilarious anecdotes from a half-century career. Poet, comedian and performer, Pam Ayres, introduced her new book ‘Doggedly Onward’ with several brilliant readings. Lastly, Ex-Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman gave a heartfelt recount of growing up during WW2 as he discussed his semi-autobiographical novel ‘‘Billy in the Wars’.
