This restored 18th century convent is in the heart of Maratea and is framed by the terracotta roofs of the old mediaeval village. It was originally occupied by the Visitandine nuns and the many historical features that remain make a fascinating contrast with the contemporary art that has been collected by the owners. Each of the 27 bedrooms reflects the character of the property and is designed to make the most of the abundant natural light. The view from the hotel’s restaurant, gardens and swimming pool are also wonderful both by day and by night. The shops and restaurants around the main square of Maratea are a few minutes’ walk away and the hotel operates a shuttle to a lovely local beach where the sea water is crystal clear. Those with mobility issues should beware that there are a number of steps around the hotel and the path to the village centre is steep. In the summer months a shuttle takes guests to Maratea Beach which is four miles away (complimentary sunbeds and parasols).
